 SC2004, with the theme Bridging Communities, will be held November 6-12 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

**** SC2004 Selects Keynote Speaker ****

 Tom West, President and CEO of National LambdaRail, Inc. (NLR), will deliver the keynote address at SC2004. His talk is titled “NLR: Providing the Nationwide Network Infrastructure for Network and ‘Big Science’ Research.” NLR is a national effort comprised of members and associates from across the country focused on implementing and operating a national network infrastructure to serve the needs of the advanced research community. **** SC2004 Housing Registration is Open ****

 Hotel reservations for SC2004 can be made using the form available on the conference web site. Attendees have until 4 pm Eastern Time October 4 to reserve rooms at the conference rate. All the conference hotels are located in downtown Pittsburgh and shuttlebus service will be provided to all hotels except the Westin Convention Center Hotel and the Courtyard by Marriott, which are both adjacent to the convention center. **** SC2004 Exhibition Largest on Record ****

 SC2004 has already attracted more than 225 exhibitors planning to showcase their latest systems, services and scientific achievements. The exhibition is already the largest on record with many more exhibitors expected to join the growing exhibit floor. For information on how you can exhibit at the show, go to

**** Posters Submission Deadline Extended to August 2 ****

 The deadline for poster submissions has been extended to August 2. The conference is seeking poster presentations displaying cutting-edge research in high performance computing, networking and storage. Posters at this year’s conference will occupy a prominent location at the convention center.  Abstracts for accepted posters will be included on the conference proceedings CD-ROM, and a prize will be awarded for the “Best Poster” at the conference Awards session. **** Booth Selection for Research Exhibits Nearly Concluded ****

 Both selection has almost concluded for the nearly 100 research exhibits. Exhibitors can expect handbooks to arrive in the mail in August. These handbooks will contain exhibit guidelines and regulations, information on how to promote your presence, shipping and material handling information, utility and service order forms. SCinet will be contacting each exhibitor for networking requirements.

**** July marks deadline for a wide range of conference programs ****

 The end of July marks the deadline for a host of SC2004 programs and activities: (1) HPC Software Challenge submissions are due July 26. The HPC Software Challenge (see ) honors software developers and engineers working to improve the quality and productivity of HPC software. (2) Proposal submissions for the StorCloud Challenge are due July 31. The StorCloud Challenge is part of the new StorCloud initiative, which will build a petabyte-scale, high performance storage capability on the conference exhibit floor to highlight storage technologies. For the challenge, teams of scientists and engineers will use the StorCloud infrastructure to demonstrate emerging techniques or applications, many of which consume enormous amounts of network and storage resources. Participants will be challenged to significantly stress the StorCloud infrastructure while delivering innovative application value across the multiple research networks that connect to StorCloud. (3) Nominations for the Seymour Cray Computer Science and Engineering Award and the Sidney Fernbach Memorial Award are due July 31. Nominations for the Cray/Fernbach awards can be made at
